Antenatal

It all starts off with a good old chat. We'll utilise our antenatal visits to cover information on birth preferences, comfort measures, pain management, education, and most importantly, your ideal vision of what you'd like your birth to look like.

This is a time for us to get to know each other, to build rapport and for us to work out what support will be most beneficial for your family.

As a part of our antenatal visits, I offer the opportunity to explore the process of birth mapping. Birth plans? Pfft, no thank you.

A "plan" suggests there's one right way to do things, and it's a failure if it doesn't happen. A "map" shows us what birth can look like if it takes us down road a, b, c or d, etc, and the process of "birth mapping" enables you to make informed decisions along the way.

Throughout our work together,  I’m available to answer any questions you or your partner might have and to help you understand things as they happen.

My goal is for you and your partner to feel empowered throughout this experience and never have to feel like you have no clue what’s going on!

Labour & Birth

From the time that I go on call, my phone will be on, my doula bag will be by the front door and I’ll be ready to go! Say the word and I am there.

In terms of the labour and birth, I’m there with you from when you need me at the beginning until you feel ready to let me go (my maximum time limit is when bub reaches 2 years old, k?). I can be present for elective & non elective caesarean births too!

I'm involved as much as you want me to be. This might look like sitting in the corner, there if you need me. Or it might mean holding your hand the whole time, breathing with you to remind you of your best breath, or hip squeezing through every contraction.

I've done Spinning Babies and Optimal Maternal Positioning training so I'm able to help with positioning and stretches to help bub have as much room as possible in your epic pelvis to rotate and come down smoothly.

Photos and videos are a great way to look back on your birthing experience. I'm not going to lie, I'm not coming in with a schmancy camera and then using a fandangle editing system. I just use my phone (which admittedly DOES have a great camera!) and then send you everything that I've taken.

I hang around after babe has arrived and help you get your beautiful golden hours, make sure that you and your partner have eaten well, help you shower (omg there's nothing like a post birth shower) and get you feeling settled before I head off and let you bask in the newborn bubble.

Postpartum

Once you're settled in and ready for a visitor, I'll love on you and bub. We can debrief your birth experience, chat through how your body (and mind!) is recovering and how new born life is treating you.

I can help you with any issues that may have come up and tell you how freaking gorgeous your new little human is and how epically amazing YOU are. A foot soak and massage is also on offer as we chat away.
